• To give local people and business the opportunity to celebrate New Zealand's long associations with the
  148-year-old Melbourne Cup and international racing through a truly celebratory event.
   
• To provide business networking opportunities nationally and internationally.
   
• To promote the Waikato, Waipa district and, in particular, Cambridge for tourism and other businesses.
   
• To provide opportunities for local charities to raise money.
   
• To enhance the flavour and spectrum of entertainment locally for the community.
   
• To  raise the profile of horse racing in New Zealand and provide platforms for people to get involved in racing by developing key media partners in the event.
   
• To promote young children's involvement from school visits and event competitions.
   
• To raise the profile of New Zealand internationally.
   
• To enhance and link trans-Tasman relationships and goodwill at a business, sporting and community level.

Aims

The First Tuesday project is the brainchild of local Waikato based businessmen
Phillip Quay (journalist) and Noel Power (veterinarian) Both are involved full time in the New Zealand equine industry and both share a dream of seeing a greater celebration of New Zealand's contribution to international horse racing - in particular the Melbourne Cup
