Cambridge Melbourne Cup Day
brought to you by the First Tuesday NZ Trust
The region’s overwhelming contribution to the Emirates Melbourne Cup is to be celebrated on November 3rd 2009. This year will mark the 149th anniversary of the great race.  Cambridge has been home to 14 Cup winners and the greater Waikato region has contributed a number of others.  In the past 45 years – 55% of the winners have been from Waikato blood.

The venue for this year’s Cambridge Melbourne Cup Day will be Cambridge Raceway.  Racing from Flemington will be broadcast live on a massive outdoor screen climaxing in the Emirates Melbourne Cup Race at around 5pm.

In addition, Trackside will be broadcasting on dozens of plasma screens throughout the Raceway complex.

The 2009 event will be a concise, professional and fun packaged adventure.  It will pave the way for some serious fun in 2010 - the Cup’s 150th anniversary.

November 3rd 2009:  The gates open at 11am with the helicopter on standby track-side for the 1st action-packed adventure ride of the day at 11.30am!  Rides can be purchased on the day as can raffle tickets - which will also be available at retail stores around Cambridge and through schools.

Entry to the Raceway is free and a family-friendly food-hall and bar will be open from 11.30am. Full viewing of all activities will be available to the public.  Limited TAB facilities available.

A choice of hospitality packages is also available - bookings essential.

Income from the event will be donated to two Cambridge initiatives - an organization making a difference in the lives of Cambridge Life Skills Institute and Cambridge life skills institute an initiative focused on making Cambridge’s town-centre ready for the tens of thousands of international visitors that will be attending the Rowing Champs and the 2010 Cambridge Melbourne Cup Day.  A donation will also be made to the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust.

Cambridge Melbourne Cup Day will also provide a platform for children and young adults in the Waipa to learn what makes our community the Home of Champions. This initiative will be delivered through schools in the region.

Media Partners Cambridge Edition will be running a colouring-in competition for Cambridge Kids with the three best entries winning Helicopter adventure rides!
